Program Summary:
The AYS Community Health Program provides a variety of health support services to AYS clients and the community youth. Internally, AYS' team of nurses provide both health education and screening to clients, many of whom fall through the cracks of traditional health care provisions. The nurses works in conjunction with a case manager to help these clients receive other services as needed.
Hip Hop for Health Fairs 2010-2011:
Externally, the Community Health Program sponsors "Hip Hop for Health" fairs in all USD 500 junior high and high schools and one alternative school during the regular school day. Thanks to partnerships with dozens of community organizations, students learn about health resources available to them right here in Kansas City. AYS is actively seeking volunteers to assist with the fairs. Click here to see the full health fair schedule this year.
Referrals / Admission:
In order to make use of the Community Health Program at AYS, youth must be currently enrolled in another AYS program or be referred after attending a Hip Hop for Health Fair.
Get Involved:
The AYS Community Health Program is always looking for energetic volunteers interested in youth health and medical issues to assist with Hip Hop for Health Fairs. These high-energy events can serve as clinical hours for medical and dental students, and there are jobs for every type of volunteer who enjoys talking with students!
